Melbourne

Ahh friends, there is nothing like a holiday to recharge the batteries and make you appreciate what you have. We (my little family and I) have just been on a short five day visit to our old home, Melbourne. It has been several years since we last visited and what better excuse than the wedding of a couple of long time friends with the promise of great food, great music and of course wonderful company. We boarded the plane full of excitement and after a short two hour flight, landed in the midst of one of those hot, windy and dry 36 degree days that only Melbourne can turn on. In the city's true form, the promised change arrived the next day and the temperature plummeted by 18 degrees in the space of an hour! I had checked the weather report before I left and packed clothing compatible with hot weather but my brain unfortunately chose to completely ignore the unpredictable nature of Melbourne's climate. I really should have known better after living there for no less than six years. I spent four of the five days doggedly determined not to don my husband's oversized sweater, choosing fashion in favour of comfort all the way. I was after all in Melbourne, the home of all things cool, fashion, art, music, food.... The wedding was what we expected and so much more. Our gorgeous friends tied the knot on the white sands, bay side, in front of the colourfully painted boat sheds after no less than seventeen years of courtship and one child between them. The blushing bride was breathtaking in her beautiful vintage dress looking for all the world like Carrie Bradshaw on a good day. The wind blew us all away but the rain held back for just long enough. As much as it was pure delight to catch up with friends and experience city life again we were so very happy to return home to the lush green rain forests and beautiful coastlines of northern New South Wales and Byron Bay where the temperature doesn't vary more than a few degrees every day regardless of whether the sun is shining or the rain is falling softly on the white sand of Wategos Beach.
