Waking up the Neighbours

THE INCIDENT

I pulled up outside Meshh the other morning and upon opening the car door I was assaulted by music pumping out of what I thought must have been a passing car. Muttering about it being a Sunday morning I walked toward the shop, key in hand. Slowly my Sunday addled brain began to recognise the beats, and the fact that they had suddenly lifted a decibel or two as I neared the shop door. With rising mortification I slid the door to Meshh, the pop-up nightclub. There was a full party going on with not a punter in sight!

THE EXPLANATION

One morning a couple of weeks ago I exercised my superior technical skills with a little help from local photographer Fran Flynn who did the dusty, on 'yer knees work. Between us we managed to rewire the old stereo so that I could play music directly through the pc hence accessing a much larger pool of music. A joyous achievement indeed when you have listened to the same 10 CD's a hundred times and don't have a spare iPod at your disposal.

During our act of technical genius I neglected to remove the CD stacker from the old stereo. Since then it has sat quietly, patiently, a fully loaded weapon waiting to blow the roof off. Until Sunday morning this hadn't posed a problem. Unfortunately in the wee hours of the morning the power had gone out. When this happens the stereo spits out the CD stacker and when the power comes back on again, voila, in it pops and away it goes. So although I had shut down the computer the night before, the stereo was able to launch itself into the stratosphere without any human assistance, at maximum volume too I might add.

NB. Meshh is located right underneath a 250 bed backpacker hostel. Did you sleep well folks...?
