I have mentioned in previous posts that I am married to a Dane and am therefore an honorary Scandinavian.
It took over four years for the powers that be to decide to give me my permanent residency during which time our little family lived and worked in Copenhagen where we bought and renovated a couple of apartments, the last one being on the fifth floor in a side street to the canal right in the centre of Christianshavn, one of Copenhagen's funkiest inner city areas.
If you opened the window on one side you could see the canal and all the boats bobbing about. On the other side we could clearly look out over Christiania, the self-proclaimed free town, or a 'town within a town', peppered with many interesting characters and often a few eye-opening goings-on and shady deals. Christiania is also the home of the world famous 'Christiania bike'. What a great invention!
Oh how sometimes I wish we hadn't sold that apartment to return to Australia...then I remember that we swapped 8 out of 12 months of dull, grey northern European weather for 8 months out of 12 of sunshine, white sandy beaches and warmth. For lovers of sunshine, beaches and outdoor life, the choice seemed easy at the time.
I do miss Denmark and my Danish friends and family very much from time to time so when I saw these photos of Copenhagen in Marta's blog I had to share them with you. Enjoy!
And last of all, one of my favourite shops. I bought the funkiest pair of black and white stripe pants from Nørgaard which is in the middle of the main walking street, Strøget. I wore those pants to death..I wonder what happened to them?
These pics make me want to go on a holiday... can't see myself going to Copenhagen anytime soon, but maybe a trip to Byron can be squeezed in...
ReplyDeleteDo it, do it! Byron misses your smiley face..
